Compound Bow Accessories

It is not just the main bow which needs to be checked over and silenced appropriately. Your sight, rest and quiver will also need looking at also. Once you have set your sights tighten all the adjustment screws making sure everything is strong. Next you will need to get a marker or a scratch-awl and mark the exact placement of the windage and elevation adjustment locations this will allow you to see if anything moves. Follow the procedure again for the arrow rest, and then place an arrow on the rest and hold it outward, moving it in every way possible. Mark any spot which there is contact from the arrow with the bow and cover this with fleece. For drop-away rests attach some kind of dampening material on any surface that the launcher may strike as it drops. Hold the arrow to the sight guard and apply the fleece to any spot where the shaft can make a noise. This may sound like a lot of fussing about but trust me, when the moment comes and you need to pull back your string you really don’t want any noise drawing attention to you. Covering your rest prongs with adhesive fleece is also recommended as is using plastic or Teflon sleeves. Using a drop-away rest is your best bet as it doesn’t rise to position until the last few inches of draw, the fleece silences the launcher and this means that as your arrow spends such little time on the launcher the fleece will last practically forever!

Quivers are also responsible for rattling and vibrating one way to silence this is to put vibration dampeners on the quiver hood and line the inner edge of the hood and the rod which connects both ends of the quiver with the adhesive fleece. This makes sure that when you remove an arrow, especially in a quick movement, it won’t end in the broadhead or shaft clinking and giving your position away. Always remember to check your string and buss cables for excessive wear and tear. Applying string wax will protect them from any moisture. Taking down the measurements of such things as your cams will be very useful for future reference and also by measuring axle to axle length and brace height of your bow this will inform you if something is wrong i.e. your string creeping, the measurements will then change and you will know about it.

Always ensure that your bow is in top notch condition as not doing so will cause you to lose points and prey when hunting as other archers will have taken the steps needed to make sure their bows etc are well conditioned. Check your bow over regularly making sure there are no cracks or any foreign noises coming from your equipment. If you do come across any faults get onto fixing the problem straight away either yourself or by taking it to an archery shop where the professionals can do it for you.

Arrow and Broadhead

The sharper the arrow the better is the rule that most hunters go by. Nowadays carbon arrows are usually the best to go with as you don’t have to worry about any bending. The question is should we use plastic vanes or feather fletching? Well I would say plastic as they present no clearance issues, also come rain or shine the plastic vanes will always hold out and will remain quiet. Unless of course you enjoy the more traditional style of hunting in which case the feathers will always be for you.
